Welcome

COUNCILS NOW has been set up to counteract the negative press local government gets in Tasmania. Most if not all of these comments go unanswered and most of the bad press is just not justified. Aldermen and councillors put in a lot of time and work hard trying to make their operations work better.

What do they get for their efforts? Usually they are misreported or reports are dumbed down to something less than the common denominator.

Who loses? Usually it is the council's constituents as aldermen and councillors get disheartened and back away from the really difficult decisions.

As time progresses COUNCILS NOW will be advocating the candidacies of candidates for local government who are committed to making a difference. Councillors work really hard at getting more money in their area and they need community support to do that.

So please keep a watch on this site and we welcome contributors. We also welcome ideas councillors can adopt.

We are particularly looking forward to finding contributors who are prepared to follow an issue through.
